I began delivering healthcare to Brooklyn Heights and surrounding communities in 1994 when I joined Long Island College Hospital (LICH) as the Director of Post-Graduate Family Medicine Training. For six years I helped other family physicians perfect their family practice skills.
In 2000 I left LICH and opened Brooklyn Heights Family Practice to provide the highest quality Family Medicine services directly to the community. My staff and I provide the health care traditionally offered by Family Doctors (except for prenatal and obstetrical care). I also offer Travel Medicine services (like travel vaccinations) and weight loss programs in my Medical Weight Loss Clinic.
America’s health care system is complex. My patients and I both rely on my carefully chosen and trained professional healthcare staffers for support and administrative services. My staff helps me facilitate your preventive care, physical exam, medical diagnosis and healing. I appreciate their hard work: you will, too.
At the same time, you should know I attend you personally at Brooklyn Heights Family Practice. One of my former bosses used to say, “The patient’s relationship is with the practice, not with the provider.” But, I have heard from many of my patients that a relationship with a doctor is exactly what they are looking for. That is why I do not use mid-level providers—Nurse Practitioners or Physicians Assistants—to “speed” things along.
Our doctor/patient therapeutic relationship is the most powerful tool in the primary health care toolbox. Regardless of changes in the science of medicine or the healthcare system, effective medical care depends upon trust, respect, and understanding between doctor and patient.
That healing therapeutic relationship is what we strive for at Brooklyn Heights Family Practice.
